TWO MILLION TREES
Calling All Garden Club Members!!
We need your help!
Our National Garden Clubs president, Lois Dupre Schuster, has as her project for 2001-2003 a goal to plant "Two Million Trees." Sounds impossible? Not really. We can easily do our part in Louisiana, if each Louisiana garden club member and each garden club across the state would plant just one tree, we can reach our goal! Tree planting projects may include Arbor Day Celebrations, Habitat for Humanity , Civic Development, Garden Therapy, Adopt A Park, or trees planted in memory of a loved one or a civic leader. Get involved with tree plantings for your city or parish. Give out seedlings as part of a program to make area citizens aware of the necessity of planting trees.
Seedlings may be ordered through the Office of Forestry, P. O. Box 1628, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-1628. Request a list of available seedlings for delivery in January. Thel LGCF District Directors will send forms to all garden club presidents to help us keep track of all trees planted in our state. The completed forms are to be sent to Donna Bucci, Arboriculture/Arbor Day Chairman, 1244 Delmar Road, Morgan City, LA 70390-5904, or E-mail the information to [email protected]. We will keep a tally of the progress of each district. The deadline to turn in the number of trees planted this year is March 15, 2002.
Clubs may wish to apply for grants to help defray the cost of the trees. PETALS is an excellent way to assist in this endeavor. Make plans to plant trees! We want Louisiana to shine!
