..... There were many beautiful flower displays at the Belle Chasse Garden Club's
flower show at the Belle Chasse Civic Auditorium. Exhibits were of fresh flowers as well as artificial ones and all were worthy of a ribbon. Members picked out of a hat different titles of books and movies and they had to make an exhibit to go with that title. The judges were Margie Jones, Carrie Martin and Mary Jane Peters.
In the division called The Color Purple, first place went to Sandy Becnel Palmer for her Tulips, Curly Willow and Lilac display. Second place was taken by Barbara Nezat for her Gladiolus Illyricus and Kale. Josette Seifert won third place with her arrangement of Delphinium.
In the division called Fried Green Tomatoes, first place went to Mary Ann Relle for her arrangement of orange roses,
green tomatoes, Curly Willow Tips, Ruscus and Bells of Ireland.
Some of the other first-place winners were Evelyn LeBlanc, Dolores Branan, Nancy Fridge and Gloria Sketchlerm. An honorable mention went to Carol Becnel for her purple irises and driftwood, which was a part of the division of Life on the Mississippi . ..
