METAIRIE GARDEN CLUB
*METAIRIE GARDEN CLUB GROWS NEW OFFICERS*
Sunday, July 08, 2007
The Metairie Garden Club installed its new officers for the 2007-08 year. They are JANE BOSWORTH, president; BARBARA MANGUM, vice president; NANCY ROMAINE-ZAPATA, secretary; and BARBARA SAIK, treasurer. LOUISE LEE is the immediate past president.
The Old Metairie Garden Club was established in 1938. The club sponsors
numerous projects, including maintaining the "Welcome to Metairie"
garden area at the corner of Metairie Road and Orpheum Street.
The club also recently sponsored the planting of a bald cypress tree at the corner of Robert E. Lee and Marconi Drive in honor of Michael Owen, a local horticulturist. PATTY HABEEB MUEHLEMANN was president of the club for 2003-05. "Sponsoring a tree is a great
way to help City Park rebuild," Muehlemann said. "City Park will
send the purchaser a map designating the location of where the tree is
planted in the park. It is a nice memorial."
Members now are working on a new edition of a cookbook, "Favorite Recipes of Old Metairie."
