Club recognized for beautification projects
Date: Sunday, June 24, 2007
PRESS RELEASE
The members of the Whitney Heights Garden Club have won numerous awards recently for their beautification projects.
The club was recently given the Michael Yenni Beautification Award by Jefferson Beautification Inc., sponsor of the annual Parkway Promenade. This is the highest honor that a local garden club may receive.
Also, three blue ribbons were bestowed on the club by the Civic Beautification Association of Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes
The top award by Civic Beautification was given for the turnaround on West Esplanade Avenue between North Labarre Drive and Clifford Drive. This project is maintained by Whitney Heights member Bea Bajorek.
The area at the entrance to the Whitney Heights subdivision on Veterans Memorial Boulevard garnered the second ribbon. Club members Katherine Bordelon and Linda Abele are responsible for this project.
And the third honor was for upkeep of the planter box at the end of Clifford Drive by the Lake Pontchartrain levee. This is maintained by Sue Wulff and Merline Bordes.
The club's yearbook was recognized with a second-place ribbon from the Jefferson Council of Garden Clubs.
