WHY ADOPT-A-PARK

 

  1. It will beautify your community
  2. It will provide immediate recognition to your club from community residents as doing something constructive to help the environment.
  3. It will provide camaraderie among club members planning and working together

 

HOW TO ADOPT-A-PARK

 

  1. Obtain consensus from your club members to adopt a local park or a portion of a local park. Your project could also be an entrance to a subdivision or town square, In other words, any pubic area where a park-like atmosphere is needed. Your adopted park should include a tree or two, not just a flower bed
  2. Ask your mayor and city Council members for approval. They will be happy to work you. You may also wish to include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H clubs to be involved Remember, Kids Count
  3. Be sure to photograph the before and after pictures to contrast your accomplishment.
  4. Have a sign made designating your adoption of the park. Besides naming your club, also include that your club is part of the LGCF and the NGC.
  5. Plan a dedication ceremony. Invite your mayor and other pubic officials, the newspaper for photos, and other garden clubs to show off your efforts.
  6. An award may be granted for adopting a part. Send one book of evidence by Jan, 10, 2008 to be judged. Note: If you already adopted a park you may update or change the landscape for an award.
