WHY ADOPT-A-PARK
- It
will beautify your community
- It will
provide immediate recognition to your club from community residents as
doing something constructive to help the environment.
- It will
provide camaraderie among club members planning and working together
HOW TO ADOPT-A-PARK
- Obtain
consensus from your club members to adopt a local park or a portion of a
local park. Your project could also be an entrance to a subdivision or
town square, In other words, any pubic area where a park-like atmosphere
is needed. Your adopted park should include a tree or two, not just a
flower bed
- Ask
your mayor and city Council members for approval. They will be happy to
work you. You may also wish to include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H
clubs to be involved Remember, Kids Count
- Be sure
to photograph the before and after pictures to contrast your accomplishment.
- Have a
sign made designating your adoption of the park. Besides naming your club,
also include that your club is part of the LGCF and the NGC.
- Plan a
dedication ceremony. Invite your mayor and other pubic officials, the
newspaper for photos, and other garden clubs to show off your efforts.
- An
award may be granted for adopting a part. Send one book of evidence by
Jan, 10, 2008 to be judged. Note: If you already adopted a park you may
update or change the landscape for an award. Be sure to follow the steps
