HONOR ROLL

A certificate may be awarded for accomplishments as noted below:

STANDARD RATING: Achieved by meeting first five standard requirements for Juniors, and all seven requirements for intermediates.

1. At least 6 children in the group.

2. Minimum of 5 meetings during calendar year.

3. At least one program a year on each of the following subjects: Horticulture, Conservation, Nature Study, Flower Arranging and Flower Show Procedures.

4. Participate in a Flower Show

5. Have a Club Project

6. Have at least one workshop on one of the following

subjects: Horticulture, Conservation, Nature Study,

Flower Arranging and Flower Show Procedure.

7. Have a Club Library.

EXCELLENT RATING: Achieved by meeting any five of the following for Juniors, and any seven for intermediates.

1. Study of State Birds.

2. Participation in Conservation Contest (speech

and/or poster)

3. Every club member able to quote “Conservation Pledge”.

4. Garden Therapy project.

5. Garden Visitations and/or field trips.

6. Litterbug program or clean-up projects.

7. Observe Arbor Day (plant a native tree or shrub).

If weather does not permit planting on Arbor Day,

select another day.

8. Make a Club Scrapbook.

9. Make a Club Yearbook. (Send one copy to State

Chairman of Youth Activities).

10. Visit a State Park.

SUPERIOR RATING: Achieved by Juniors who meet five standard requirements, plus any five excellent requirements and any two of the following requirements:

1. Sponsor a Standard Flower Show.

2. Make roadside plantings

3. Make one or more public plantings (churchyard, school, etc.)

4. Plant or care for flower or vegetable garden.

5. plant or care for two potted plants.

6. Apply for at least three state awards.

AWARD OF MERIT FOR

CONSERVATION ACHIEVEMENT

Eligible for NGC #32. A certificate and $10.00 will be awarded to a Jounior/Intermediate Garden Club which has successfully carried out a conservation project. Grade level must be stated. See General Rules.

AWARD NO. 3 - F

AWARD OF MERIT FOR

EXCELLENCE IN FLOWER SHOWS

Eligible for NGC#47.

a. A certificate of merit will be given to a Junior and/or Intermediate Garden Club whose Flower Show scores 90% or more as judged by the Standard Flower Show Evaluation Form.

b. A certificate of merit will be given given to a group of Junior and/or Intermediate Garden Clubs for a Flower Show that scores 90% or more, as judged by the Standard Flower Show Evaluation

Form. All procedures relating to application for a Flower Show Award for a Senior Garden Club are applicable to the Junior and/or Intermediate Garden Club application. Follow procedures in National Rules 9 and 10-A in presentation.

 

AWARD NO. 3 - G

GARDEN THERAPY AWARD

A certificate may be awarded to a to a Junior and/or Intermediate Garden Club for having sponsored an outstanding program of garden therapy whereby handicapped and/or institutionalized or special needs individuals in one or more institutions have received noteworthy benefit. Grade level must be stated.

ARBOR DAY CERTIFICATE OF MERIT

A certificate may be awarded to a to a Junior and/or Intermediate Garden Club for conducting a tree/shrub planting ceremony during the month of January. grade level must be staated. See General Rules.  Note: Senior Garden Clubs who contribute outstanding service toward the promotion of gardening among youth may apply for NGC #8 Award application made through LGCF-NGC Awards Chairman.

AWARD NO. 5 - A

HORTICULTURE PAPER AWARD

A Certificate of Merit and $10 will be given to the author of a Horticulture Paper by a Garden Club member. Points considered in judging are informative data and comprehensive treatment of subject matter. This paper must be submitted in duplicate. If merited, Certificates of Merit will be given Second, Third and Honorable Mention.

 

Criteria: Length of no more than 750 words. All words count. Title page and bibliography excluded. Dates count as one word. It should be prepared in black ink, typed, double spaced using a standard,  nonscript font no smaller than 12 point or larger than 14 point. Paper must be author’s own work.

 

Essay must have a bibliography listing all  referenced utilized.  Internet resources, if used, should be cited in similar format to that used for printed resources. Add the electronic address used to access the document as supplementary information. (Any paper with information copied directly from sources without using quotes will be disqualified.)

 

Title page to include: Author’s full name and address, phone number (optional), e-mail address (optional), name of author’s garden club and district, and number of words in paper.

 

Judging will be based on historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of material, interest, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness. Pictures, maps, drawings, graphics, and other such additions will not be considered in judging and should not be included.

 

AWARD NO. 5 - B

HORTICULTURE HONOR ROLL

A certificate with Blue Seal will be given to a club making 100 points or more. A certificate with Gold Seal signifying Outstanding Achievement in Horticulture will be given a club making 200 or

more points. See Horticulture Rating Sheet. See General Rules.

 

AWARD NO. 5 - C

CERTIFICATE WITH GREEN ROSETTE

A certificate with Green Rosette for Excellence in Horticulture or Horticulture Education may be awarded to an individual, who may or may not be a Garden Club member, for Excellence in Horticulture interpreted as outstanding service, to development of new hybrids, achievement in research, or disease control and/or for education in any of these fields such as books, pamphlet, magazine articles.

AWARD NO. 5 - D

CERTIFICATE FOR CREATIVE

HORTICULTURAL ACHIEVEMENT

Eligible for NGC #4. A certificate with orange, blue and green ribbons may be awarded to an individual who is a Garden Club member of the LGCF for Creative Horticultural Achievement which makes a permanent  contribution to Horticulture. In the case of the development of a new variety, it is requested that a statement from the respective Plant Society be

submitted with the application.
