SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
2007-2008
I. The Scholarship Program will be administered by the Scholarship Committee composed of a chairman and four members appointed by the president and the District Directors of each District sponsoring a scholarship. Others may be asked to serve on this committee. The LGCF president is an ex-officio member of the committee.
II. Twelve scholarships are available.
A. Six Scholarships will be awarded annually on a competitive basis. Each will have a total monetary value of $1,000, and granted with a $500 stipend for the fall session and $500 for the spring session. Evidence supporting enrollment for the spring session must be forwarded to the LGCF scholarship chairman after the fall session.
B. District I Scholarship of $500.00.
C. One LSUBR book scholarship of $250.00
D. District II book scholarship of $250.00
E. One LSUBR scholarship of $500.00
F. Gardening Consultants scholarship of $500.00
III. Scholarship Categories are as follows:
A1. The Anite Currault Scholarship $1000.00
A2. Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. Two scholarships of $1000.00 each
Landscape Design, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Agriculture,Plant Sciences, Conservation, and other allied fields. Students from all Louisiana State Supported Colleges or Universities with an accredited department in any of the above are eligible to apply, including renewal applicants.
A3. The Irene M. Petijean Horticulture Scholarship $1000.00
Students from all Louisiana State-Supported Colleges or Universities with an accredited Horticulture Department are eligible to apply, including renewal applicants.
A4. The Ducie Heaney Horticulture Scholarship $1000.00
Students from all Louisiana State-Supported Colleges or Universities with
an accredited Horticulture Department are eligible to apply, including
renewal applicants.
A5. LGCF District VII Scholarship (Composed of Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Jefferson Davis, and St. Landry Parishes) $1000.00
Students who are residents of the above mentioned parishes and from all Louisiana State-Supported Colleges and Universities with accredited departments in any of the Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Agriculture, Plant Sciences, Landscape Architecture & Design, Conservation, and other allied subjects are eligible to apply, including renewal applicants.
B. LGCF District I Scholarship $500.00
District I composed of the parishes of Orleans, St. Bernard, and Plaquemine.
Students who are residents of District I from all Louisiana State-Supported Colleges or Universities with accredited departments in any of the Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Plant Sciences, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Conservation, and other allied subjects are eligible to apply, including renewal applicants.
This scholarship of $500.00 will be granted in the fall.
C. The Neil Christopher / Louisiana Landscape Design Consultants Council Book Scholarship, LSUBR. $250.00
$250.00 to be awarded in the fall to a student in a Landscape Architecture
/ Design or related field of study, enrolled at Louisiana State University,
Baton Rouge.
D. LGCF District II Book Scholarship $250.00
District II composed of the parishes of Jefferson, St Charles, St. John
the Baptist, and St. James. Students who are residents of District
II from all Louisiana State-Supported Colleges or Universities with accredited
departments in any of the Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Plant Sciences,
Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Conservation, and other allied
subjects are eligible to apply, including renewal applicants.
$250.00 to be awarded to a student for the fall session.
E. The Neil Christopher / Shady Oaks Garden Club Scholarship, LSUBR $500.00
$500.00 to be awarded in the fall to a student in a Landscape Architecture / Design or related field of study, enrolled at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.
F. The Gardening Consultants / Jo Ann Christopher Scholarship $500.00
$500.00 to be awarded in the fall to a student of Agriculture, Horticulture or related fields of study, enrolled in an accredited program in a Louisiana State-supported College or University.
IV. Eligibility of Applicant:
A. Applicant must be a Louisiana resident enrolled in a Louisiana State-Supported College and/or University, and at the Junior, Senior, or postgraduate level.
B. Applicant must be majoring in Life Sciences, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, etc., as listed in the scholarship categories.
C. Applicant must have a 3.0 (B) overall grade-point average and a 3.0 (B) average in their major. The scholastic average must be maintained for the renewal of the scholarship for the spring semester.
D. All applications must be accompanied by the following:
(1) Three letters of recommendations
---A letter from the department head of the university.
(Letter to include confirmation of student's scholastic
average from previous years).
---A character reference from a civic leader from the student's community.
--An additional reference (academic).
(2) A personal letter by the
applicant (not to exceed two pages) discussing goals, background,
financial need, and personal commitment.
(3) Transcript of college or university record.
(4) Photograph of applicant. (Head shot)
(5) Complete financial statement.
V. Applications accompanied by the above must be received by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Scholarship Chairman no later than July 1st.
All award checks will be issued to the students before the fall session and before the spring session.
No check will be issued to the department, to the college, or to the university without the written authorization of the President of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.
