The cuera was made of layers of hide, quilted. Participants will make a replica cuera in the traditional fashion, representative of the efforts of the Spanish Soldado. Nov. 15, Fort Jesup State Historic Site, Many - Zachary Taylor Day, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. In celebration of the 224th birthday of Zachary Taylor, our 12th president and first commander of Fort Jesup, visitors can witness the preparation of a Thanksgiving Feast in the Old Army Kitchen. On the bottom floor of the museum, ongoing discussions of President Taylor’s life and accomplishments will revolve around the display honoring him. They will choose a tree to adopt, tie a string around the trunk to check the size of the tree, and record it in their journals.
