Plant It Pink Birdhouse
Goes To The 2010 World Equestrian Games
The Kentucky Experience Garden at the World
Equestrian Games features the National Garden Clubs, Inc. “Plant It
Pink” Birdhouse. The games, known as the Equine Olympics, are being
held for the first time outside Europe. The Kentucky Horse Park, host
of this world-class event, anticipates 600,000 spectators and
participants during the 16-day event beginning September 25.
Twelve garden hat birdhouses with fluttering pink
ribbons will hang in one of the native trees featured in this garden
commissioned by the Kentucky Department of Tourism. This gentle
reminder to “think pink” continues to raise awareness of the fight
against breast cancer.
Using one of his mother’s garden hats noted
garden designer Jon Carloftis designed the birdhouse hat for the NGC
Plant It Pink program. The hat, the second in the “Plant It Pink”
series, is handcrafted by Louisville Stoneware. Ten percent of the
birdhouse hat sales go to NGC for their garden therapy program and
projects at health care facilities
