Report of the Scholarship Committee August 2006 The Scholarship Committee met on the evening of August 6, 2006 to select the recipients for the 2006-2007 academic year. Those attending the selection meeting were: Annamary Miester, LGCF President; Peggy Cazes, former LGCF President; Betty Bagert, former LGCF President; Dolores Masson, LGCF Corresponding Secretary; Linda Finley, District VII Director; Eleanore Capretto, LGCF Credentials Chairman; Beth Rush, representative for District II; and Ann Cooksey, Scholarship Chairman. We were so pleased that our Louisiana candidate, Megan Samantha Broadway from Rayville, was chosen to receive a $3500.00 National Garden Club Scholarship in 2006. Mary Elizabeth Bordelon from Giesmar, a senior at Louisiana State University Baton Rouge majoring in Landscape Architecture was awarded the $1000.00 Anite Currault Scholarship. Greta Goravona from Carencro, a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Biology and Conservation Ecology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was awarded a $1000.00 Scholarship. Lesley Margaret Litton from Monroe, a senior at the University of Louisiana at Monroe majoring in Agricultural Business was awarded a $1000.00 Scholarship. Karen Weins from Breaux Bridge, a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Biology and Ecology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was awarded the $1000.00 Irene M. Petitjean Horticulture Scholarship. Sharmila Pathikonda from Lafayette, a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology was awarded the $1000.00 Ducie Heaney Scholarship. Kourteny Anne Ackley from Lake Charles, a senior at McNeese State University majoring in Agricultural Science was awarded the $1000.00 District VII Scholarship. Amanda Anthony from Baton Rouge, a junior at Louisiana State University Baton Rouge majoring in Landscape Architecture was awarded the $500.00 Shady Oaks/Neil Christopher Scholarship. Jennifer Kay Zell from Baton Rouge, a graduate student in Landscape Architecture at Louisiana State University Baton Rouge was awarded the $500.00 Landscape Design Consultants/Neil Christopher Scholarship. David Michael Newman from LaPlace, a senior at Louisiana State University Baton Rouge majoring in Landscape Architecture was awarded the $250.00 District II Book Scholarship and the $500.00 Gardening Consultants/Jo Ann Christopher Scholarship. There were no applications for the District I and the District VIII Sara Weiss Book Scholarship.
