The Gardenettes of Ponchatoula held their December meeting and Christmas Social on December 7th at the home of Debbie and Rick Henegan. The Henegans had their home beautifully decorated for the Christmas season which added to the festive atmosphere. Since Debbie is an avid collector of "Precious Moments" figurines, the Henegan Christmas tree was splendid with "Precious Moments" ornaments creating a beautiful scene for the guests.
Members present were: Adrienne Dunn, Aimee Marcombe, Cheryl Kuhn, Cricket Ayala, Dale Rieth, Debbie Henegan, Diane Dufour, Janice Hickey, Karen Moran, Kathy Bedenbaugh, Kathy Bruce, Louise Steadman, Lynda Byrd, Margaret Bailey, Mona Middlebrook, Pat Sweeney, Patty Mullins, Robin Austin, Sandra Haro and Tonya Ferguson.
The meeting was called to order by President Janice Hickey. Janice thanked the members for their participation in the club's Christmas projects, namely, Operation "We Care" where the club donated shoe boxes of gifts for our troops overseas. The club also participated in the "Samaritan's Purse" project by providing gifts for needy children. Several members participated in decorating Christmas trees at North Oaks and the Ponchatoula Library.
Members Janice Hickey, Tonya Ferguson and Sandra Haro volunteered to decorate a "Mr. Bingle Wreath" for the 25th Anniversary of "Christmas in the Oaks" at City Park. Donations were collected by Mona Middlebrook to deliver to the Apotheca Food Bank. Members each brought floral exhibits to the meeting which will be donated to a local nursing home.
Karen Moran reported that the Gardenettes Garden of the Month Award for December was awarded to Josh and Jessica Millet at 40215 Formosa Avenue in Azalea Woods for their beautifully landscaped yard.
President Hickey informed the members that the Gardenettes would be hosting the January 11, 2012 meeting with Community Garden Club at the Strawberry Festival Building. Plans for the joint meeting were discussed and the meeting was adjourned.
The Gardenettes then enjoyed a delicious meal of a variety of dishes prepared by individual members. Everyone was in a festive mood and enjoyed socializing and sharing their plans for the holidays. The members then played "Greedy Santa" and everyone went home with a gift, if they managed to keep it from being taken by "Greedy Santa"! The Gardenettes all expressed their appreciation to Debbie and Rick Henegan for being such wonderful hosts.
The Gardenettes are a Ponchatoula garden club and are members of District VI of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation (LGCF) and the Deep South Region of the National Garden Clubs Inc. (NGC).
