The Gardenettes of Ponchatoula and the Community Garden Club held a joint meeting at the Strawberry Festival Building on Wednesday, January 11th. Special guests from the Baton Rouge Garden Club were Jeanette Gatzman and Willie Allen, who presented a wonderful and informative program on Underwater Design. Jeanette Gatzman is also a member of the Lazy Daisy Study Group and Villa del Rey Study Group of the Baton Rouge Garden Club. She is Treasurer of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation and National Garden Club Life member. Willie Allen is a member of the Lazy Daisy Study Group of the Baton Rouge Garden Club and a member of Community Gardeners Garden Club. She is Registration Chairman for Summer Board and Chairman of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Finance Committee and a Louisiana Garden Club Federation Life member. Gardenettes members present were President Janice Hickey, Diane Dufour, District VI Director, Kathy Bruce, Sandra Haro, Adrienne Dunn, Mona Middlebrook, Cheryl Kuhn, Lynda Byrd, Joan Morse, Louise Steadman, Vicky Fannaly, Cricket Ayala, Margaret Bailey, Pat Sweeney, Tonya Ferguson, Karen Moran and Peggy Austin. The meeting was called to order by President Janice Hickey. She thanked the members of the Community and Baton Rouge Garden Clubs for joining us. Hickey announced that the Gardenettes will celebrate Arbor Day on January 27th by planting three Redbud trees in front of the Kiwanis Club. Hickey also announced that the Tangipahoa Joint Meeting will be hosted by Belle Oaks Garden Club at the LSU Ag Center on February 15th. After taking care of business, all of the members and guests enjoyed a delicious luncheon provided by members of the Gardenettes. The Gardenettes chose "The Four Seasons" as their theme for the luncheon. Tables were beautifully adorned to represent the four seasons of Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, complete with centerpieces, china and flatware to coordinate with each season, adding a beautiful, elegant flair to the occasion. A special program on "Underwater Design" was then
presented by members of the Baton Rouge Garden Club. Jeanette Gatzman
presented a program on Underwater Designs for Flower Shows which was
very informative. She demonstrated various designs and gave
recommendations for flower show participation. Willie Allen then gave a
presentation on Underwater Designs for the Home. The Baton Rouge
Garden Club graciously provided the materials necessary to create
underwater arrangements, and each member in attendance was given an
opportunity to create her own underwater design under the instruction of
Willie Allen. The designs were displayed so each member could enjoy
the different interpretations of design created by the members. All
present agreed that the program was educational and lots of fun!
President Janice Hickey thanked the ladies from the Baton Rouge Garden Club for their time and expertise. She also thanked the Community Garden Club for their help with the joint meeting.
