September 2011 - Club Meeting


   Gardenettes met in the home of Cheryl Kuhn Wednesday September 14, with Diane Dufour, Peggy Austin, Margaret Bailey and Vicky Fannaly serving as co-hostesses.
   Beginning a new year for the club which meets September through May, president Janice Hickey passed out the yearbooks with the program for the events scheduled. The theme honored 9-11. She thanked Sandra Haro for all the help with the book.
   A Plant Sale has been scheduled for October 8 from 9a.m. to 2p.m. at Collinswood Museum. Joan Morse and Kuhn reviewed the changes there especially the arbor and discussed the club’s work there. Aimee Marcomb gave the club the money she had collected from selling paperback books at her former main street store.
   Past president Cynthia Orgeron returned as a guest. Door prizes were provided by Dufour, Bailey, Dale Rieth, Cheryl Kuhn, Louise Steadman and Fannaly.
   A proposal to have club T-shirts was approved, following a proposal on shirts made by Rieth. She also reviewed the progress on entering the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc. (LGCF Inc.) annual Cleanest City Contest. Mona Middlebrook is considering being chairman for the club.
   Horticulture chairman Patty Mullins judged the specimens brought by Robin Austin and Bailey. Members admired the floral display brought by Robin Austin, who had the only entry in that category.
   Dufour as Sixth District Director LGCF Inc. gave the club an overview of the Flower Show Judges, Environmental Studies and Landscape Design schools she attended over the summer. She also passed around applications for the upcoming District VI meeting to be held in Baton Rouge October 6.
   Other members present included Cricket Ayala,  Adrienne Dunn, and Kathy Bruce .
