It was a huge room with old brick walls, tall cypress wood columns, and a very high ceiling. Warm lights from the chandeliers hung over tables draped in white, with elegant settings of pretty cups and saucers and sparkling glass. Napkins were folded in fleur de lis style. Flowers filled containers and gave the room a special charm. The ladies of the Washington Garden Club waited anxiously for the door to open and the show to begin. Guests were invited in by a gentleman in a top hat and tails and escorts showed them to their seats. The room was filled with excited chatter. Four delicious tea courses were served by the WGC members, while the music played on.
The vintage style show began with a performance of can-can dancers and continued with models from the 1920's through the 1960's eras. The 2006 " A High Time at High Tea" was a great success. We thank all the members of the Washington Garden Club and all the volunteers for their hard work. And we invite you all to join us next year for tea!
