OUR PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE...
Fall was always a very exciting time of the year for me. School starting, the air crisp, a new beginning. But it is also a sad reminder of the blows sisters Katrina and Rita dealt us. For all of you who suffered the pain of that time, I hope you have peace.
We made it through an exciting Summer Board Meeting. At least for me, as it was an initiation of sorts. We had a good turn-out and a very special guest, Deep South Director Mary Summerville. What a talented, lovely lady!
Once again Laura Broussard, Chairman, and her committee, did an outstanding job of pulling it all together. The meetings were on time and schedules flowed gracefully. Thanks to Jeanette Gatzman also for doing the schedules flowed gracefully. Thanks to Jeanette Gatzman also for doing the task of registering our members. Thanks go also to Mary Evitt for handling the Ways and Means duties. And of course, thanks to all who had a part.
Mary's special project "Flower Hour" gave Peggy Gazes a chance to shine with her visual - sounds like a ton of fun. Peggy does not only plan to give instructions on arranging but teaching "Tables Matter" to youth groups. This includes table settings, simple flower designs and good table manners. This is an invitation for you to sponsor these groups of youths at the cost of $ 10 per child. Louisiana has been asked to raise $2,000 statewide. Let's all pull together to make this a great project.
We resolved the Headquarters issue, laid it to rest. We presented our resident caretaker with a lease outlining her responsibilities as well as the Federation's. The necessary repairs to the home are being made now and it will be in top share for our Winter Board meeting. It will be here before you know it.
I hope the District Directors are looking forward to October's meetings. I am for sure. Before the October schedule begins, I plan to be in Jonesboro-Hodge on October 6th and the Vidalia 75th Jubilee on the 1 5th of September. Then it is off to St. Louis for the NGC Fall Meeting.
Our very talented website director, Kathy Tell, reminds us to check the site for meeting dates, where to go when. It is up to us to keep information flowing to her. Don't forget my challenge to your clubs - add at lease one member to your club - reach out - we have so much to share with each other and you will make everlasting friendships.
All in all, we are the Guardians of this Earth. Let's rally together to help all in need, planning programs and sharing ideas. I know each one of you have something valuable to contribute -yourself.
See you in October. Don't forget Awards deadlines.
