"God's
Footprints", Vidalia Garden Club's Flower Show, was held on May 15, at
Vidalia First Baptist Church, Vidalia, Louisiana. "God's Footprints"
included floral design division (All God's Children), horticulture division
(From God's Earth), and special exhibits (God's Great Domain) featuring
a youth exhibit section (Enjoying God's Flora) and an educational exhibit
section (Praising God Through Growing & Designing). The creative design
section ~ "Women of the Bible" ~ was staged on white pedestals
and featured four designs in each class: "Mary, Mother of Jesus";
"Lydia"; "Delilah"; and "Ruth".
Mary Knapp's design depicting "Delilah" (Class 3) captured first place,
Designer's Choice and Sweepstakes Awards. Una Knapp won first place with her design
honoring "Mary, Mother of Jesus" in Class 1. Lena Bateman, District
V Director, earned first place with her entry symbolizing "Lydia" in
Class 2 and Gwen Huff won first place with her design representing "Ruth"
in Class 4.
There
were 74 entries in the horticulture division with Eleanor Talley taking top honor
(Arboreal Award) with Japanese Maple entry. In addition, Talley received received
16 blue ribbons, 2 red ribbons and 1 yellow ribbon winning her the Sweepstakes
Award for Horticulture. Sharon Woods won the Award of Horticultural Excellence
and Award of Merit for her Hen & Chicks entry. Mary Knapp(daylilly), Mary
Mullins(Brooks Rose) and Monelle Moseley (lily) each received Horticulture Awards
of Merit. The youth exhibit: The Lord's Little Ladybugs had five container-grown
Spider Plants entered for judging. Entries were grown from small plantlets given
the Jr. Gardeners in September 2003. The Jr. Gardeners earned 2 blue ribbons,
2 red ribbons and 1 yellow ribbon on their entries. |
